Episode 10 We finally answer, "What Nothing Sounds Like"
In three parts - the gals get back to Chapter 5 from "Getting Back To Me" - sure there were a few interuptions (what else is new?) but this time they have a good excuse - The performance of a script based on Scottie's book!
Part 1 - Technical... difficulties, yeah, that's it!
Okay, okay, so we're a day late (psst. actually 3 days) okay but we had a great excuse! We were able to pre-record the reading of the chapter - which describes a scene that many trans girls go through; a clandestine nocturnal operation to steal a few minutes of being real. And the consequences when the operation goes awry. But as Marcy points out - it's the first time that Scottie's burgeoning sense of self and strength can be seen peeking out from behind a seven-year old's eyes...
Part 2 - Did they or didn't they... you know... know?
Marcy points out that Scottie never got that chance to find out if her parents knew she was a gril born into a boy's life - both passing before Scottie came out. But many trans people do or will face coming out to their parents and the results are not good. Scottie confesses that many trans people won't make it because they don't have a Marcy...
Part 3 - It's. Not. A. Choice.
Marcy confesses that once she was able to get over the idea that Scottie wasn't doing this to hurt her - that this wasn't a choice Scottie was making, she was able to see that she was in love with a person, not a gender. Misunderstanding that trans is a choice is why all of the discrimination and revulsion of the community stems from - Scottie asks "how do we change that?"
