Episode 12 Chapter 7 - "The Only Way Around is Through"
In two parts - Scottie sums up the way she's gotten through most of her life - which is going THROUGH most of her life. Never one to go around her issues, she plowed right through obstacles, through loss, through dysphoria, and, as she discovers in part two of this episode, this through line (sorry - we couldn't resist) continues... as she goes right through her fear that life with a capital T might qualify her womanhood... but it's a bell that will never be unrung...
Part 1 - It is and it isn't...
Scottie reads from the Chapter 7, describing the conundrum that is one of the hardest things to explain - it is about outward appearance and it most certainly is not. It's at once as deep as the core of one's being, and as shallow as the glow of one's complexion... because it's how the world sees one and how the world regards one. So yes, character counts, beauty is only skin deep and we are all beautiful on the inside ... and yes, clothes do make the woman. Because it's how a woman defines herself. And for Scottie growing up, clothes were a mere concession to the expectations of others...
Part 2 - Gimme a T!
Marcy helps Scottie see that life has taken on it's own momentum in their life - and the gals realize that the path of "advocacy" has suddenly opened before them... and it dawns on Scottie that she's fought hard to live life as just the woman she is, but in the publishing of her book and the speaking they've been doing, both women will now be known a trans couple.
