Episode 14 Chapter 9 - "Turkey & Dressing"
In three parts - Scottie reads from a chapter about her two favorite things coming together on one special holiday - fashion & food! But Marcy digs in getting Scottie to open up about a fundamental misunderstanding of the trans experience - it's not superficial.
Part 1 - There's dressing, and then there's dressing...
Never one to do anything half way, Scottie takes being stranded in Alaska for Thanksgiving to go "all in" on her potluck dishes and... herself. But how will her crew regard her feminine form?
Part 2 - Is that spinach in your teeth or is your eyeliner jacked?
Marcy gets Scottie to describe the "rusted iron vise" that IS gender dysphoria, and how even she didn't really understand what it was until it went away. And certainly, very few even try to understand this very real physical pain & trauma that comes when it goes unchecked. Which gets to the heart of the matter - misunderstanding leads to discrimination. It's. Not. A. Choice. Which seems to be at the base of transphobic discrimination. An amusing turn in the conversation, doncha think?
Part 3 - There's not a limited amount of light in the universe.
Scottie asks some fundamental questions about fear - and her willingness to double down on her own misjudgment - even when she 's been shown she's wrong. But Marcy brings it back to love. Oh, and food!
