Episode 25 - Chapter 20 - "Cat's Cradle"
This episode, Scottie reads from Chapter 20, "Cat's Cradle" from her book, "Getting Back To Me - from girl to boy to woman in just fifty years" about one of the hardest things for anyone (let alone trans) to face - self acceptance. And the first stage of self-acceptance is actually accepting that the mirror, society, even your parents are not and have never truly reflected who you are.
"God doesn't do Mistakes"
Scottie writes, "All of creation is as exactly as intended, even if it doesn't fit someone's fantasy of reality. Because that's all it is; despite what anyone tells us. Nobody has the patent on your reality. Any view/opinion (other than your own) is just someone else's vision of should." No matter what Scottie tried, she was never going to be a boy, no matter what her body told her. After 52 years of watching and waiting, it only got harder to rectify her identity with her vision of "Should." And it took her brilliant, and beautiful mind that long to get it's bearings and realize that all of the pain and confusion could be over with just a little thing called acceptance. Marcy reminds Scottie that she has a precious gift that people are probably jealous of and that's the remarkable perspective of having lived life (and very well at that, thank you very much) from both sides of the gender divide.
