Episode 39 - Chapter 34 - "My Dinner With Anthony"
This week, the girls are (re)fresh(ed) from the Women's March! It's an unlikely prelude to a rather sticky situation that almost all trans people (women & men) face - the invasion of privacy when it comes to their bodies. In this week's account, Scottie reads about coming out to her friend and former filmmaking partner, Anthony. And no matter how hard she tries to steer clear of seemingly invasive questions, her dear friend's curiosity almost gets the better of her...
"Do you sit down to pee?"
Trans people hear it all the time - "What? I'm just curious.' This is supposed to excuse the entitled sense that it's okay to ask the un-askable. Think the unthinkable. That is wondering about someone's "girl or boy parts" when as Laverne Cox says, they're not going to date us, or are not a health care worker. People seem to think that its suddenly okay and even a right to ask this of total strangers, and usually it's done in a social setting - And when Scottie (or any other trans person cries foul, she's told to lighten-up. Sigh.
