1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Northgate Community Center
10510 5th Ave. N.E., Seattle, WA 98125

An unprecedented resource for the therapeutic community
Join us for a 3-hour Workshop with Scottie and Marcy Madden, who will share the most intimate details and steps of their journey in Scottie's transition from loving husband to transgender mate of Marcy. For more information, see  Scottie's Book: “Getting Back to Me,” from girl to boy to woman in just 50 years.

Supported by Gottman relationship Counselor, James Marshall, MA, LMHC, this special program will provide critical information for counselors and therapists for both individual clients and couples in, or considering, gender transition.  This includes clients who are in the beginning stage of coming to terms with gender dysphoria or other gender identity issues.

Articulate, Real World Experience with Unflinching Candor, Love & Humor

Every gender transition is unique, but “late stage” (post-puberty) transitions have significant barriers that can surprise a counselor. Scottie and Marcy provide an unprecedented resource for the therapeutic community, candidly sharing their own experience with unflinching honesty and humor. This is an opportunity not to be missed!

This workshop includes ample time for personal exploration and an open, in-depth discussion among participants and presenters, guided by the invaluable facilitation skills and personal experience of Marshall questions about this increasingly timely topic will be welcomed.
Workshop deliverables:
This  3 - hour workshop includes a 2-hour interactive presentation that will provide information to improve  understanding of the transgender community, address the misunderstanding and invisible bias and beliefs facing the LGBTQ community, and provide a safe and professional environment to discuss the challenges facing the therapeutic community when serving LGBTQ clients.
Immediately after the presentation, a reception will provide a casual environment for one-on-one follow-up conversation/exploration.

Presenter Bios: - SCOTTIE JEANETTE MADDEN

PictureAuthor, Writer, Director, Showrunner
Scottie Jeanette, born Scott James, didn’t make it easy on herself. Like many late-stage trans women, Scottie had made one helluva guy. Everything in her life screamed "Alpha Male."  With over 30 years in television production, no one would guess that Scottie, a top survival showrunner who had lead über-male productions into the world’s most dangerous jungles, glaciers and deserts, was engaged in a lifelong battle for her soul. Scottie rose through the ranks of production and brings a front line experience to her work as writer, director and showrunner.  She put ALL this, plus a marriage of 26 years, on the line when she wrote “Getting Back To Me” from girl to boy to woman in just fifty year.  She left behind “white male privilege” to embrace truth, grace and womanhood. Her gut-wrenching journey of love, acceptance and honesty is all captured in her book. Her story is the ultimate survival show as we see Scottie shake off fifty years of family and society’s expectations. She dismantled the walls of a self-imposed prison, and charted her way back from denial to acceptance, from fear to courage to be herself. Scottie has created and written children's television (Pug & Zero's Field Trip) Feature Film ("the kiss") gameshows, ("Do you trust me?""Duel,""On the Cover," and "Last to Survive")  primetime ("Blood of Queens,""The Other Woman," "Out of the Wild," "Dude, You're Screwed") and award winning screenplays.

Presenter Bios - MARCY MADDEN

PictureCopywriter, author, producer
Marcy M. Madden brings to Zuzubean Press her years as a professional speaker, director, producer, and owner of her own production companies in San Francisco and San Diego. She lends her sharp, crisp and witty writing to all forms of media. From corporate branding to human rights campaigns to animal activism (ask her anything about possums!), Marcy's narrative is insightful, engaging and unforgettable. But with all her life experiences and her various careers, nothing could have prepared her for the shock of her husband’s confession, after 20 years of marriage, that he was a woman. For Marcy, Scottie’s “getting back to me” is a story of getting back to love. It was a journey of pain and healing, distrust and faith, fear and love.  And, due to popular demand, Marcy is writing a book about the partner’s perspective of a transwoman’s coming out. Look for a fall release
